Creatures of the deep

A magnificent civilization divided
Because foolishly our reflections we pride
They left within the tides
In the vast unknown they survive
Driven to darkest depths
They thrived
Companions to the soldier's of the deep
They've embraced this glassy land as theirs to keep
Facing dangers unimaginable
Securing their futures in a way unfathomable
Leaders of the sea
Unlike their ancestors who basked in the crystal waves by day
Slipping lithely through the rapid currents by dark
Now apart of the watery abyss
Gazing longingly at the bay
Battling predators untold
When; Strange happenings unfold
Maddening noises fill the calm
Forcing their protector's to beach with insanity
Where death will take them
Their flesh picked from their gigantic bodies
Their bones left to bleach
How these intelligent creatures mourn one and all
To see so many mighty warriors fall
Some though in pain; rush to their gentle protector's aid
Others retreat
Too vulnerable
Too afraid
At watery gates they watch, they wait
All in attendance know it's already too late
The would be rescuer's attempt to descend back into the sea
But this foreign air is not what they remembered it to be
It's thick with dirt
Far too hot to breathe
Most are able to make it back
Avoiding the impending traps
But one; in desperate search of more had wandered too far up shore
The smoggy air filled his aquatic lungs
He tried to make it back in
Cursing himself for straying to where he should not have been
He does not make it
He collapses before
Hard, dry sand beneath him
His rapidly drying skin is sore
One last desperate attempt at life
He sheltered beneath the surrounding seaweeds
Not knowing it was already too late
Discovered, he was seen
A meeting with fate;
Poked at by heavy sticks of brass
Aliens in white
They had no face's
Lights that were too bright
Burned his sensitive eye's
Confusion reined
They had trapped him in the strangest of places
A bubble of the element so dear to him
Stretches but will not burst
He is carried to a lab
Later removed in a black bag
Terrifyingly; he is only the first.
